State Variable
A state variable is a defined thermodynamic quantity for either the whole system, a component in the system, a species in a substitutional phase, or a constituent in a phase. Additional functions or variables can be defined through certain mathematical expressions of state variables. Such functions or variables are referred to as partial derivatives or derived variables.
